Hi Nandinka,
If you have had an endoscopy - then this is a walk in the park in comparison. The manometry test is done first - and that catheter is slightly bigger than the PH catheter. I was made to drink through a straw as the put the catheter down - and this was an unusual sensation - but nowhere need as bad as I imagined. You then lay down and get to swallow small amounts of water and eat something like marshmallows after that, then the manometry catheter is removed and again you drink through a straw as the ph catheter is put in - this is narrower - and is taped to your nose and side of your face. Make sure you don't wear any makeup! This is attached to a monitor which you record when you are eating, sleeping, when you feel pain - but they will tell you as the monitors are all different. Mine did not have a ph reading - but some do. You can't get the monitor wet - so no shower for 24 hours! Also I was told to eat all my triggers - and take no meds - was not the best - but they will then get a full picture of how bad your reflux is.
It's always scary to face the unknown - but it's nearly always not as bad as you imagined.
Good luck!
