Hello everyone,
I am a 21yo female and for the last 3 days I have been suffering with an unstoppable burning in the top middle of my stomach. Sometimes it has been accompanied by cramp pains but mostly it is a constant burn/gnawing pain. I take pariet at night time after being diagnosed with dyspepsia many months ago but that doesn't even touch this burning. I can sleep at night but the burn starts again as soon as i wake up and continues all day with little bouts of relief when eating but the pain always worse after food. What is this and what can I do? Can anyone else relate?

Welcome to the forum!

What you're experiencing are definitely signs of GERD and/or Gastritis and many of us can definitely relate. Have you tried a PPI (Prilosec, Nexium, etc.)? This could help control your symptoms and heal the Gastritis. If, after a week of consistent dosage you still aren't feeling any relief, I would contact your physician to get a stronger PPI prescribed.

I am taking Pariet (rabeprazole). It's not really doing much anymore. I stopped taking for a while thinking I'd gotten better and since this attack it hasn't been effective in relieving me. Just another question, does GERD cause back ache/pain? or is that a side effect of the PPI? since this bad attack my back feels so stiff and achey.

If that medication isn't working for you, it would be a good idea to visit your doctor and get something else prescribed in order to help calm your symptoms. GERD can most certainly cause backaches as the pain in your esophagus can radiate throughout your chest and its muscle structures. Everything is connected, so it wouldn't be surprising if particularly bad attacks cause you more significant pain.
