Post Nissen sore throat/bad cold

I have recently had bad sore throat and cold. My Nissen had seemed really successful (nearly a year ago) but since this cold, it feels like bad heartburn. It does go with gaviscon but I am really worried that the wrap has failed somehow.

Is this something that happens, I know the wrap,does gets very sensitive but didnt know if a sore throat could do this.

Hi Julie,

Sorry you're having trouble! Have you seen anybody about your sore throat? How much coughing did you do? You may have irritated something through severe coughing. The esophagus is a dumb organ, and it interprets all pain as reflux. If Gavascon coats and makes things feel better, it doesn't automatically mean it's reflux-induced.

In my experience, when I irritated my wrap/lower esophagus, it would take a week or so to get things feeling better. Hopefully with a little time to heal, you'll be back to your old self.

Thanks Denise, thats what I thought, but you worry. My throat is fine now, I did cough quite a bit. It does still feel really irritated but Gaviscon etc does calm it down. When I had reflux before the op Gaviscon wouldnt help at all, so I know I am miles better. The throat lozenges and cough mixtures seem to make it more irritated, and all the hot drinks. Any other ideas how to calm it down, or is it just time now.

This forum is such a help, its so reassuring to know everyone is going through the same type of problem and there is someone there to listen.
