GERD symptoms? Confused

Hi, for the past eight months ive been on Omeprazole for mild acid reflux (ENT put wire up nose and down throat) however recently ive been having problems where I have to burp but they come out as strained not like proper burps, I'm also going to the toilet extremely often in terms of urination, hVe had abdominal pain so I went to the doctor and he said to come off Omeprazole for a week and do a stool sample as he's testing me for h polyri?? Something. The first day i came off them I experienced a dull ache in my left chest and kept feeling like I just had to burp and again they're strained. The pains come and go through out the day but are really annoying and painful - like an ache. Sometimes extends to my shoulder. I'm on the second day of no tablets and the chest pain started around three hours ago (coming and going) is this a side effect of coming off them? The thing is I'm 20 and I didn't even have chest pain before I was put on them! I'm also having gas and going to the loo often (sorry) hence my doc testing my stool.

Also an add on- I had an ECG three days ago for an unrelated matter and a chest x ray about 3-4 weeks ago.

I also sometimes have trouble swallowing - only sometimes and my throat usually feels tight and swollen. Lately I've also been burping up liquids but NEVER acid. Does this sound like GERD?

You can't just quit the PPI cold turkey, especially after 8 months of being on it. You have to wean yourself off.

I was diagnosed with mild gastritis/gerd and I also have chest pains. It freaked me out so much so that I had my primary give me an EKG, ECG, and Holter monitor and everything came back normal. I also get heart palpitations and ortho hypotension that I attribute to GERD as well. I am a perfectly healthy 27/m male who is an athlete so yes chest pains are common with GERD. I don't really get much acid reflux, only at night if I sleep flat but I get just about every other symptom of GERD.

When I take a few hits of MJ or go for a jog I get chest pains right in the center of my chest between my pecs. It isn't like a rising burn like with acid reflux, just a dull ache that seems to progress in that one spot. Other than that, I get the chest flutter and muscle twitches as well.

I don't get a lot of reflux either, at least not as badly as others do. My most serious symptom is chest pain and for several years I've seen a cardiologist who has run a gamut of tests so I know the chest pains are more likely from my hiatal hernia. If I should ever forget to take my dose of Nexium I can tell because by the evening I start to feel like I might be having a heart attack. It can be quite frightening. Usually my PPI works well to control my symptoms but recently it became less effective and I started to get burping and gas and once in a while food got stuck for just a few seconds before
going down. My doctor said that isn't uncommon and increased my dosage.
I'm not a medical person but based on my own experience I would say that your symptoms certainly might be Gerd. And I know that if I stopped taking my PPI, I would be in a world of hurt. You're right to have a doctor check this out. You should tell him that since stopping omneprozole your symptoms have heightened and have him follow up on that.

Yes, occasionally when I'm eating or drinking water the food/water stops for just a second. I sit up straighter or stand up and it then moves on but its distressing until it does. This doesn't happen often and certainly not as often as other people report, but it has been increasing for me lately.
I haven't heard that seizures are a Gerd symptom but maybe someone else has and can talk about that.
Some people here have talked about "rebounding" if they stop taking PPIs too fast. If you don't start feeling better soon you should let your doctor know and ask about a rebound effect.

I was also on omeprazole 20mg and was dealing with burps (slow motion burps). They would take forever to come up my esoophagus. PPIs like omeprazole can cause delayed gastric emptying in some people. This is where food is staying in your stomach too long because you no longer have enough acid to digest your food. When this occurs, it will cause excessive burping and will actually make the reflux worse.

The lump in throat sensation is called globus, which I have experienced before. It feels like there is always something stuck in your throat when you go to swallow. This is due to the inflammation in this area caused from the reflux. (nothing is really stuck in the throat)

When you quit taking a PPI, you go through acid rebound (withdrawal symptom also referred to as hyper-secretion of acid). This is why the reflux temporarily gets worse before it gets better. This probably explains the chest pains.

After I was completely off the PPI, two months later the burping completely stopped. Five months after I was off the PPI the globus sensation left and my reflux was cut in half.

I also get the swallowing issue worse in the evening like my throat stops working, had the problem prior to Op but worse but I had to have the Op as I'm asthmatic and I was aspirating due to food bypassing shpincter

I started omeprazole 20mg because I was experiencing reflux when eating spicy foods or drinking beverages with citric acid or caffeine. I thought if I took a PPI, I would be able to eat and drink the same foods that everyone else enjoys.

When I first started taking the PPI everything seemed okay, but when I was on the PPI for almost two weeks things started going downhill. I had excessive burping (like slow motion burps that took forever to come up my esophagus), bloating after eating, abdominal fullness at times. Months later my throat became extremely raw from the reflux. I also had mucus in my throat and globus sensation.

The PPI had caused delayed gastric emptying where food was staying in my stomach too long. This can cause many symptoms with GERD being one of them.

I also had the test done where the ENT puts the small tube down your throat with the camera on it. But I did not have that test done until after my issues became worse on the PPI. Since most doctors believe PPIs are perfectly safe, they never suspect this is what caused the problem. So they increased the dosage of my PPI, and I became much worse.
