Bad bad lpr need help

I have had lpr for about 8 months. It started with really bad case of gastritis. I had never had any kind of reflux issue until then. Soon after the gastritis I started with liquid simply pouring into my mouth. After undergoing an endoscope it showed a very small hiatal hernia ( less than 2 cm) and a slightly weakened les. Everything else was clear. A barium swallow test showed no hernia, swallowing ok and no reflux. I was put on 40 mg protonix 2 per day. I stayed on that dose for 4 months with only gradual reduction in symptoms -throat mucous, sore throat and continued awful acidic mucous coming into my mouth and now making my teeth super sensitive. I am now on protonix 40 mg am amd 20 mg pm and 150 Zantac at bedtime. The symptoms wax and wane but are definitely better than 8 months ago. Does anyone k ow how long it could take to get these under control? My gastro wants me to have a 24 hr ph test but I can't imagine being off the ppi for a week or so. I fear the acid would completely engulf my mouth again and do further tooth damage. Has anyone ever done the ph test without going off the meds cold turkey? I feel I must be refluxing all the time so don't need to be off the meds. This is just totally miserable. It has never left my thoughts for all these months. Yes I have read and faithfully follow the koufman low acid problem and diet.

Thanks for the reply. I'm so sorry your test did not show the extinct of your reflux. That is so disheartening after suffering for a all those days. I still haven't decided if I will do that right now. I'm seeing some gradual improvement in my symptoms and may give it mor time. This reflux stuff is just the slowest resolving stuff I have ever gone through. I think if I haven't got it tamped down and manageable by end of summer I will try to go to NYC and see Dr. Koufman. That is my thought for now. I live in the Midwest so it would be a commitment for sure. I hope you are feeling better back on your meds now and wish you the best.
