Hi Britt, I agree with Linda, I used that link and gleaned a wealth of info prior to my surgery. The link on those pages about the diet, the one from Oregon was the best. I was really ready by the time I got home. Because of the gas pain and some bloating, I got up and walked every few hours. It took about a week for the gas pain in my left shoulder to go away. You can be up and around the house in the first week, but leave the house work to your husband. Don't pick up any kids because you will feel it in your abs where the holes are healing. My doctor wanted me to stay out of work for 2 weeks, but I have a desk job so I went back for half days the 2nd week. Because of the low calorie intake, even with snacking, you will feel tired at the end of many days. I still do not feel hungry at all so I try to eat every couple of hours. If I don't, I typically feel a small headache so I know I have to eat.
I also had soft foods on day 3 but when the internal swelling got tighter, about day 5 I think, I went back to liquids for about a week. I did a journal entry on here almost every day for the first couple of weeks to detail my recovery. You can find it under my name. I think a positive attitude that you are fixing a bad problem will help most. I was so happy to not take any more PPIs and get some really good sleep at night. So although the recovery can be long, it was all well worth it.
Good luck and keep us all posted on your surgery. Take care.
