Good afternoon everyone. Just had my surgery done on Wednesday so wanted to share my experience and get some advice from others on the forum who have had the surgery.
I'm a 30 year old male living in Florida.
Surgery performed was a 230 degree fundoplication wrap and hiatal hernia repair.
The surgery was performed on Wednesday September 2nd and I spent 1 night at the hospital.
As I woke up from anesthesia, the pain was pretty mild. I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything.
After a few hours they started giving me some water sips and apple juice with morphine IV for the pain. The pain was managed until I started having severe pain in my upper chest, neck and shoulder (from the gas like I've read on here). I was in so much pain I wasn't able to walk the first night or do anything.
The second day was much better. They put me on a soft diet right away since my wrap wasn't so tight I'm able to handle soup, even mashed vegetables. Pain meds and all other meds are liquid.
Today is the second day since the surgery. Still have pain in my upper chest and neck but it's more controlled. The incision sites are starting to hurt more and I feel full and bloated after a few tablespoons of apple sauce.
Trying to walk and rest as much as I can.
Update:
It's now 4 days after the surgery and I'm feeling much better. Still taking pain meds but I feel I could stop in a day or two. Finally had a bowel movement this morning. Have been able to burp and pass gas fine.
Also able to eat mashed foods - still small amounts and when I over-eat I feel very bloated.
Pain in the neck and shoulder is starting to slowly go away.
I feel like I can be back into my normal routine shortly. Even considering taking a trip next week.
