No, my esophagitis was brought on by a very bad diet, heavy drinking, getting very little sleep, sleeping incorrectly, and drinking lots of soda and energy drinks. I also get a white coating on my tongue from time to time.
There are many different causes of that white coating on your tongue.

How were you diagnosed? Did the doctor scope you?
Thanks for the speedy response!
And about
the white coating--you're right, I saw that article. I am more confident that it is not the cause of my esophagitis, as I do not have white spots in other parts of my mouth, nor do they bleed when scraped off.
So I was diagnosed by my doctor just by telling him my symptoms. I started on a dose of doxycycline and after the second day, I had an intense feeling of my throat closing up. I stopped the medication immediately, but the feeling didn't go away. I also had a lot of pressure and gas (more than usual) buildup in my chest and throat. He took a quick look in my throat, but diagnosed me with pill-esophagitis (which seemed to make sense to me). I am now on my third week of carafate and eating GERD/esophagitis foods. I am still burping a decent amount and I seem to get a little better, and then get a teeny bit worse if I'm not careful.
For instance, I was feeling great last week and then I ate something with bell peppers in it and immediately felt my esophagus flare back up again, and it hasn't really gone away since then.
I have an abundance of herbal remedies (probiotics, slippery elm, aloe, marshmallow root, DGL, etc.), but I don't want to overdo it, either!
