Hi, I'm a Newbie to the boards here. My gastroenterologist first mentioned considering the NF 18 months ago. At that time I read some boards and posts and decided to continue suffering. I'm now ready for The NF. I know every case is different.... I'm waiting for the surgeon to call and schedule a consult and set the date I've just completed all the testing needing ( ph acid test, endoscopy with dilation, manometry).
I would be grateful for any insight or questions anyone can recommend that I may want to ask the surgeon.

Why did you need a dilation? Do you have a stricture?

Ask the surgeon what type of surgery he is planning. Do you need anything special for the hernia, besides closing get hole? My stomach was stuck in my chest, so I needed to have it pulled down.

If you have more than just the usual fundoplication, the surgery could be a bit longer. I'd absolutely refuse to go home the same day in the best case, so ask how long you will be allowed to stay in the hospital.

Ask about diet when you come home so you can get what you need stocked in. You won't be driving for at least a couple of weeks, more likely a month or more.

Of course there are some people who have minimal procedures and who go home and recover quickly. But it's best to be prepared to have a nice vacation from work.
