I am a 39 year old woman & have have reflux on & off for years. I had a couple of scopes 20 years ago & was told inflammation was fairly mild. Over the years I would develop shortness of breath, tightness in throat & chest, clearing my throat frequently, excessive burping & occasional palpitations. In the last 6 months my reflux symptoms have been more frequent & I have been taking pantoprazole 40mg intermittently but have not been very compliant. My diet is good & I drink alcohol a couple of times a week. All of a sudden, two weeks ago the lump in throat & chest tightness returned & I noticed that some foods felt like they would stick before going down. I of course googled & Oesophageal Cancer was the first thing to come up. I'm so freaked out & my anxiety is at an all time high. I've already beat breast cancer 6 years ago & can't bear to do cancer again. I'm having a endoscopy & colonoscopy in a weeks time. So scared!!! Has anyone had these symptoms & had clear results? I'm not sure if it could be LPR as I rarely experience heartburn. Help!!!

Protonix, if taken intermittently, will not help. Please remember, we are not doctors on this forum, but most of your symptoms do sound like GERD/LPR. I would keep a food journal and see if you can pinpoint potential trigger foods. Second, the alcohol definitely will not help your symptoms. If you can, try and control your anxiety - it can make the symptoms you have seem a lot worse. It's great that you are having an endoscopy and colonoscopy done, they can help with a diagnosis. Lastly, I know it's hard, but please don't google Cancer - Dr. Google can be your worst enemy.

Update:

In case others were interested my endoscopy & colonoscopy showed no abnormality whatsoever! No erosion, strictures, Barrett's, inflammation, hiatus hernia or polyps. It was deemed crico-pharyngeal spasms by the gastroenterologist. Maybe onto any ENT next.
