3 years out from Nissen and just awakened with reflux again, now what?

I am so upset. I have had 3 wonderful years of no reflux awakening me at night, and now it happened again ! I have had to have hiatal hernia repair and Nissen fundoplasty because of barretts esophagus and gastric reflux at night and have never felt better. I'm so afraid that this could mean things have changed inside . I have had another endoscopy in January to check the barretts, which is not detected at all (thank goodness), but the doctor did see a small hiatal hernia again. Has anyone out there gone through the same thing and had to have their wrap re-done? I'm really worried as I'm looking at back surgery in one week, and don't want to have to undergo another stomach surgery. Thanks for any response.

Thank you Les for your input. I've resumed sleeping with my head up higher and also taking prilosec just before bedtime, so it's worked so far. You're probably right about a 'bug' or something. Have a good day to you. And thanks for being on this forum.

I had surgery for a Bochdalek hernia four yeas ago. I have had acid reflux snce - it has increased lately. An endoscopy showed that I now have a hiatus hernia of 10cm diameter. I am on 40 gms omeprazole per day and I take loads of gaviscon during an attack. I am seeing the consultant on Mar 18th to discuss treatment. I'd rather not have another op but I suspect that I may have to because the hernia is quite big.
