Hi all,
29 yo male here, about
8 weeks post Nissen and generally doing fine with minor issues, but also couldn't ditch the PPIs yet. One time I tried and had the rebound that brought in the LPR symptoms that has always been more dominant than classic GERD in my case. I will try to do it again soon, but a lot slower. PPIs have been controlling my symptoms about
80%.
Still, even a few weeks after going back on the meds, I have residual stuffs like globus and neck pain, with changing pain levels and spots during the day. These are after Nissen & PPIs, so there must be some pretty strong hypersensitivity among the nerves over there. Especially since I always have these just on the left side, nothing ever on the right.
One more intresting fact: the times when I had classic reflux symptoms in the past years, like most recently the 24h PH test and the PPI cessation during it, the globus and neck stuffs didn't occur at the slightest. Seems like when my reflux makes a real damage, my brain focuses on those and didn't touch the hypersensitive nerves. I was getting grade 2 Esophagitis and a duodenal ulcer in 10 days, so the rebound was huge, yet I didn't get the LPR symptoms above. It is very obvious, based on several occurances.
So, based on these experiences I came to the conclusion that while the Nissen will do it's job (the best surgeon in my country did it, it must work), I'll still have to deal with the hypersensitivity issues, so the surgery won't be the instant cure all I hoped it will be, even though my PH levels will be fine.
Has anyone of you LPR people have dealt with such hypersensitivity issues non-medically? Like getting some nerve friendly supplements, going to therapy, etc? I don't want to get another med for it, since I was fine with ppis and need to take others for another condition.
I read about
LPR symptoms improving several months after the surgery, but not immediately. I wander if this is because it takes this much time for the body to turn down the nerve hypersensitivities when the PH levels go back normal.
