Hi Amy:
Sorry you are feeling so poorly. The first thing that you can do is keep a food diary, to see if there are any foods that may trigger your symptoms. As you probably already know, stress will make your symptoms worse. If you google GERD diet, you will see a lot of good information as to what to eat and what to avoid. The simple things to stay away from are alcohol, citrus, caffeine, chocolate, tomato-based products, etc. Also, any types of ibuprofen products such as Advil or Alleve can cause stomach issues. Any medication that you can buy over the counter are about 1/2 the strength of prescriptions. Not all medications work for all people, and sometimes it takes a while for them to become effective, as well as they need to be taken properly. My suggestion is to have an endoscopy done as your doctor suggested. Right now he is just assuming that you have acid reflux, but you don't have any diagnostic tests to confirm this. We aren't medical professionals, so we can't give medical advice, but I strongly suggest that you go back to the doctor and let him determine what further testing you may need.
Good luck,
Sharon
