Spasms following Toupet Fundoplication

i had the toupet fundo in nov and it has definitely eliminated all of my gerd symptoms, but still have diarrhea and dumping and have lately had what i believe are diaphragm spasms. starts with an abdominal tightening feeling, progresses to feeling like i've had the wind knocked out of me and recently had one so bad i was in agony and resorted to my lamaze breathing from child birth. i can find no correlation for when they happen. def don't believe it's my esophagus. it is across the diaphragm area. they only last a few minutes. my surgeon wants me to have a barium swallow, but i am positive it is not my espohagus. anyone else have anything similar? thank you.

At least your surgeon is trying to look for something. Barium swallow may show the pattern in the swallow or if the diaphragm is doing something.

Another thing you can look into yourself for free is food triggers or sensitivities. Some people have problems with texture or chemical makeup of foods. I have both! After surgery, and it really hasn't been all that long although it seems forever, your esophagus might not appreciate rough textures like toast or dry crackers or chips. If you had any sensitivity or allergy symptoms before surgery it will still be there and may be more noticeable.

Try keeping a "food journal." Go to the archives (search box at the top of the page) for many, many posts. At worst you might eliminate sensitivities as a cause of your problems.
