Acid Rebound

I have had abdominal pain (right upper quadrant, lower right back) for months.
Was given Rabeprazole once a day for 4wks from ER, blood test, urine, ultrasound was clear. Only took it for 3wks, slowly abdominal pain is going away. After a week, I started having sore throat, neck discomfort after eating etc ( not heartburn or chest pain).

My Dr suggested to take 2 pills (morning and night) and I'm being referred to ENT
Other Dr I went to said, i must have a flu and to continue taking Rabeprazole.
Anyone else experience this?
Is this what they call acid rebound?

Any advise, is much appreciated

It could be acid rebound. But difficult to say not knowing how much you were taking and when exactly symptoms started. If you are experiencing acid rebound this would cause a sore throat and constant coughing or clearing throat due to mucus in throat area.

Also PPIs can cause delayed gastric emptying in some people, since there is no longer the correct stomach acid to break down food. When this happens, both food & remaining stomach acid will be pushed back up the esophagus causing sore throat. One of the symptoms of delayed gastric emptying is LPR (silent reflux) along with many other symptoms. You do NOT have to be vomiting to have delayed gastric emptying. Your naturopathic doctors are aware of the problems with PPIs causing delayed gastric emptying.

The ENT can tell you if you are dealing with GERD/LPR during an office exam, but they usually do not know what has caused it. They will typically put you back on a PPI if you have GERD/LPR but this does not address what is causing the GERD.
