First time posting, but have been reading/lurking quite a bit for the past few weeks. Last month I went to the doctor because I'd been having abdominal bloating/tenderness/loss of appetite; she believed I had a case of mild gastritis (due to an uncharacteristically greasy meal I had eaten several days before -- I normally eat fairly healthy, and don't smoke or drink) and prescribed a two week course of Prilosec. The prilosec helped a little, but did not completely alleviate the symptoms. The two week course ended and just two days later I started getting symptoms of acid reflux and LPR (have never had these problems before). I told my doctor who just prescribed another, stronger course of PPIs, but I'm afraid to start them after reading about the acid rebounds some people experience. It's been over a week and the LPR symptoms (sore throat, mucus/post nasal drip feeling, pressure in esophagus) are constant. I tried Zantac briefly, but it didn't seem to touch it. Baking soda seemed to help once, but subsequent times only temporarily alleviate the burning in my throat. I've tried adjusting my diet (just fruit smoothies), probiotics, DGL, apple cider vinegar but nothing seems to make any real difference.
Could this be acid rebound (even after such a short time on PPIs)? Has anyone had similar experiences? How long did it last?
(I have an appointment with a GI at the end of the month, but I'm worried they'll just push another prescription at me)
