I'm new to this website and wanted to thank everyone for your information after surgery. I'm looking thru all of the stories about surgery to repair a gigantic pareasophogeal hernia as I'm facing surgery in 3 days. I've lived with this for 13 years, only for physicians telling me to live with it. I've been on Prilosec for the entire time until May when I ended up in emergency due to twist.....I assume. It wasn't even considered, only tested me for my heart. I spent 2 days getting every x-ray, stress test, heart scans. I left with the pain coming back after all of the pain meds wearing off. I insisted to my primary dr some medicine that would make the pain stop....you know.....hot knife in your left shoulder. He prescribed Dexilant which I consider my miracle drug. TELL A FRIEND.
Well my surgeon warned me of another emergency possibility and that I wouldn't want a surgeon doing this particular surgery that doesn't know how to do it. It is such a specialized procedure due to the location.
Well, I'll check back in when I can to let you know how things work out. I have a good Surgeon at KECK USC in LA.
I pray to be able to breath again, get off my heart palpitation medicine and not have pressure on my heart.
