For me it would be a big deal. I don't want heart disease, fatty liver, diabetes, or any of the other myriad problems getting overweight can bring on. I've seen these things in my family for that reason.
I lost weight before my Nissen and kept losing a little at a time on purpose with the help of a smaller stomach. I don't want my stomach to stretch out again. I couldn't lost entirely on my own and joined a local weight group (don't want to advertise). For a long time after I got my weight well into normal I kept on with my new friends in the group just for encouragement in eating right and company. For me, being with other people was more helpful than just joining online. Also, buying meals was too expensive, and since weight control is lifelong, I wanted to get into good habits for myself.
One thing that kept me going was reading my operative report, where the surgeon made a comment about a large amount of fat around the stomach and heart. It was embarrassing and I never want to read another.
