Good day everyone.
I was obese for more than 18 years of my life. I am currently 31. 7 years ago i decided to lose weight and by 2013, i was down to 70kgs from 125kg. from time to time i experienced hyper acidity during my dieting days and usually remedy it with Zantac since other OTC drugs dont work for me. (In the Philippines, this brand is expensive and not popular for hyperacidity relief).
I kindly lost control and by 2014, i was back to 85 kg and early this year at 110kg. although i was taking herbalife late 2015 i stopped since its already christmas time. by January 2016, i decided to start losing weight thru herbalife, exercise and dieting. however, after a week, i feel always dizzy and out of energy and the heartburn started and shortness of breath
First thing i did was to undergo EKG/ECG, blood chemistry and xray. All resulted negative for any problems except for my high uric acid as always. Work became more stressful and my my heartburn symptoms, shortness of breath became chronic accompanied by back pain.
i also started to have pins and needles on my lower face particularly around my mouth area whenever i have my heartburn and shortness of breath. my blood pressure also started to increase to 130/90. although i am obese, my BP is only at 110/80.
I consulted with our clinic doctor and advised me to consult with a Cardio which i did. i undergone 2D echo and results were negative. this was in March. the cardio advised me to see a Gastro.
So i consulted with a gastro and gave me rebaprozole for a month. and after that if my heartburn and shortness of breath were not cured i should be scheduled for endoscopy to see the problem.
After a month, by May, i undergone endoscopy and here are the findings:
- positive ofr H.pylori
- esophagitis (multiple short mucosal breaks) LA grade A
- erosions at the cardia
- body pooling of bile
- patchy areas of hyperemia at antrum
- duodenitis
- superficial gastritis
- hiatal hernia
i was given Amox and Clarithro for 2 weeks for the H. pylori; buscopan for 1 month i guess for the bloating and gas and pantropozole for 2 months for the acid reflux.
the heartburn actually was lessened as well as the consistent burping and chronic shortness of breath specially after eating (even if i eat small amounts).
after the 2 months of PPIs, my heartburn although minimized is still there so i went back to my Gastro and he gave pantropozole again for a month and gaviscon 2 weeks.
I undergone again another series of ECG/EGS and blood chem and all resulted negative again except for my uric acid that continuous to go up.
By September, i am not in any medication anymore. my heartburn is not chronic and everytime i have attacks i only take gaviscon which resolves it. HOWEVER, i noticed that my shortness of breath became more chronic and i usually have allergic rhinitis specially during morning and evening.
i was also adised to undergo lower abdomen ultrasound so as to check if this not gallbladder related. and thank God results were negative. my gallbladder, liver and kidneys are all healthy no stones or whatsoever.
i consulted an EENT and told me there was no problem with my sinus so probably it is only allergy so he prescribed me with Bilastine. it usually works for the allergy wherein in i sneeze a lot and have runny nose but the shortness of breath still occurs.
Now is October 21 and my shortness of breath is chronic as ever. i had a 2nd Xray and my lungs are clear so our local doctor ruled our asthma, however he asked me to see a Pulmonologist to check it out and undergo other tests.
I still have heartburn attacks but not like before that i have it almost the whole day.
NOW, i hope you can help with the shortness of breath. i think now my sinus is in infected or i have problems with it since i usually have sinus attacks and difficulty inhaling thru my nose. it feels like there's something blocking.
I am also planning to go back to the EENT to have it check.
the shortness of breath attacks usually after waking up, after eating and commonly if i walked briskly and walk the stair talking. And often even if i am just sitting or resting.
Do you guys also experience the same?
Do you think i should go back to my cardio?
Thank you and sorry for the long story.
