Hello Forum Members,
In 2010 I was diagnosed with Barrett's Eusophagus. I was put on Nexium 40 mg X 2 per day. I did my routine endoscopy and biopsy check every two years. In 2014, I reduced my dosage to 40 mg X 1 per day.
Until last week all was good: Nexium worked very well for me as it illiminated my heartburn symptoms completely. I could eat everything without any problem. Of course, I watched my diet, so no smoking, a glass of wine or a bottle of beer occasionally, elevated bed, etc.
Last week I was on business trip and i had to buy nexium from the country I have been visiting. After three days taking those pills, I started to feel heartburn and the feeling was traumatic to me as I did not have any heartburn for six years now since I started to take Nexium. I decided to wait 24 hours but again, the heartburn did not go. I thought at that moment that maybe the nexium pills I bought are not good due to storage in elevated temprature or it may be counterfeit.
Yesterday I came back home from my business trip and as soon as I arrived, I took a nexium 40mg pill from the packs I use to take for the past years. I supplemnted it with another pill in the evening. Today I did the same and took double dose. The heartburn is still presistent and did not lessen.
My questions:
- is if the pills I had to take for 4 days during my trip were not good, how many days will it need for the pills I started to take yesterday to give a result and completely illiminate my heartburn symptoms?
- is it possible that I suddenly started to have heartburn because Barrett's is evolving and now I am in dysplasia stage? Thus the heartburn feeling?
- is it possible that my body got used to nexium and I need a different PPI now?
From my end, I will give it two more days, if my heartburn symptoms will not disappear, I will go for endoscopy and biopsy.
I appreiate your comments.
Best regards,
Wadih
