Hello, just hoped for some opinions by anyone who can either relate or has any knowledge about
what I'm describing. I have a doc appt but it's not for another week.
(Female, age 39 and Type 1 diabetic for 9yrs with no other related conditions)
This past September, I was sitting down and when I leaned forward I suddenly experienced a very intense pain in my chest to the point that I could not take a deep breath. It made me freeze and I could only manage shallow breaths. It felt as if I was directly in my sternum but encompassed the entire chest region and lasted under a minute. Then I got the same thing a couple of weeks later.
The odd thing is that this triggered a memory for me that I'd had this before. Then I remembered about
2-3 yrs previous, getting a pain like this on a couple of occasions. I never got the pain again until this September gone.
When I was doing some light yoga, I had noticed that when rotating my left shoulder, I experienced a very noticeable deep crunching in my sternum area. So, I though it was maybe related to muscles/ligaments.
Subsequently after the pain in Sept. I kept getting this constant urge to crack my sternum as if to relieve pressure. I also had this constant feeling of needing to stretch my ribs. All I'd be doing constantly was stretching my upper body and cracking my sternum. The feeling was that I needed to relieve pressure. I described it as needing a ring pull on my chest that I could pull
open and pressure would be released.
This discomfort lasted 2-3 weeks and then went. One thing I noticed around December was that I developed a post-nasal drip and was clearing my throat more that usual. This lasted a short while and also went.
But then about
a month ago, the niggly chest pains and torso discomfort started again. One evening I had constant chest twinges that suddenly caused discomfort in my throat. It wasn't painful but my throat felt like there was a light pressure on it and it hurt to swallow. By the following morning it had gone.
Over the past month I've had a few of the intense chest pains that have only last maybe a few seconds each time, but this ongoing need to twist/stretch upper body is back. Last week, I got the slight pressure back in my throat and since then have had a constant post-nasal drip which is causing a sore throat and annoying dry niggly cough.
I've never suffered with heartburn or indigestion. I mentioned it to a friend when she noticed me twisting and stretching and she said how weird it was because she had a workmate who, a couple of years ago, kept complaining of on/off chest pains and who was always stretching her ribs. One day when out shopping she suffered intense chest pain and was taken to hospital only to find out (in my friends words) that she had a "massive acid build-up".
I never gave this any consideration, does this sound familiar at all? Any opinions much appreciated.
