What's the difference in symptom relief between surgical fix and PPI's?

I was on PPI's for years. It got to the point where medicine didn't help, but I waited too long because my stomach was up through the hernia into my chest and upside down. My surgeon likes to get hernias small, but we all wait until it is very bad. There is also a TIF or LINX procedure to consider.
