I am a 38-year old male in Canada. I have a strange feeling that I get on the right side of my throat. I'll list main points about
it for easier reading:
- Just on the right, upper side of throat above the Adam's apple
- Not a sore throat
- Dry, rough feeling
- Does not hurt
- Does not affect my eating/swallowing
- Disappears completely when I eat
- Sometimes it feels ok and better, other times it is very prominent
- Gets worse after dinner at night
- Feels better after I wash nasal passage with saline solution
I
DO NOT have
- Problems regarding clearing of the throat
- Hoarseness of voice
- Heartburn
- Cough
- Feeling of lump in the throat (it's more like a rough, dry patch)
It's been happening for the past 11-12 days. I saw the doctor and he said it might be GERD/LPR and prescribed me Dexilant 60mg (dexlansoprazole) to eat at 5pm (I have dinner by 7pm) every day. Other than that, I take 150mg Zantac (ranitidine) when I wake up at 10am and then again at around 10-11pm. I go to sleep by around 1am, meaning I lie down after about
6 hours of eating. I do not eat or drink ANYTHING (except water) at all after dinner. I also take 4 tablets of Gaviscon Max Strength (with 360mg Alginic Acid) after every time I have breakfast/lunch and dinner. Been taking these medications past 10 days.
My question is: Is it even related to GERD/LPR? I have been reading about
it so much and this feeling of something being stuck in throat keeps coming up as one of the most common symptoms of GERD/LPR. However, I do not have any other symptoms. Also want to know if people who have the lump feeling in GERD/LPR and if it is a constant feeling or does it get better or worse different times of the day.
I want to figure out what I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
