Heartburn symptoms post-nissens.. what is going on?

Hi all,

I had a Nissens 180 wrap and hiatal hernia repair 9 weeks ago and I have started to have heart burn in the past three weeks. I have ironically never had heartburn before, my nissens was to stop volume reflux. The heartburn goes away by taking medication, so I know it is from acid and not just pain. The symptoms got worse following a misguided sprint for a bus 2 weeks ago... I am worried I have done something to the wrap, but also maybe that the operation has given me heart burn... ironically....

Any ideas?

Hi Ruthie:

This is very common, have you started to eat normally again? If so, I would go back to a softer diet for a little while. It's easy to want to advance your diet and forget that you just had major surgery. You can expect small setbacks during your recovery, but it does get better! If you have concerns about the integrity of your wrap, call your surgeon's office.
