Hello all - new to the site and new to the forum!

I have been researching my upcoming Nissen surgery which led me to this board. I'm quite nervous - my surgery is on Friday - 11/26. My doctor had me start a liquid 5 days prior to surgery(I'm reading some surgeons do this, some don't) so, needless to say, I'm starving! A friend of mine having the same procedure said she woke up with a nasogastric tube in place for 12 hours after surgery. My surgeon didn't mention this to me! Is this "common"? Is it as horrible as it sounds?

Just feeling anxious and nervous and seeking out some support and good advice! Thank you!

I've read that some people have the tube post surgery but most didn't. I didn't have one. My surgeon told me my surgery was routine and without any complications.

Every surgeon is different, I was not required to follow a liquid diet pre-surgery and I did not have the nasogastric tube either. If you have any questions, call the surgeon's office and speak to his nurse.
