My doctor wanted me to try to stop my GERD medication (dexilant) and try a diet instead (gave me a sheet on what to avoid). And also told me to try over the counter antacids instead. I have been in the worst pain since they made me do this (my back, rib cages, and face hurt when I get an attack). I took 12 tums and it didn’t even put a dent in anything. I cannot eat or drink anything until around 5-6 pm. For some reason if I eat before these times I get sick to my stomach after a couple bites and sips (does not matter what I’m eating). This whole diet thing doesn’t help anything either, the things on the list that says what I should eat still make me have acid. Any diet tips would be appreciated

Mak37:
Are you weaning off of the PPI, or did you just quit taking it? Why don't you try taking something like Pepcid, rather than all the tums? Taking too many tums can cause nausea and loss of appetite. If you still suffer from nausea, have your doctor prescribe something like Zofran. You need to give the diet a few months to see if you notice a reduction in your symptoms. Unfortunately, you won't get results as quickly as you'd like.

D-limonene works for most people. Been there, done all this, now fixed. Jarrow brand is $10. Your Dr will not know this as they are slaves to Rx companies.

You are probably suffering from rebound acid, which happens when you don't wean off of a PPI and quit taking it cold turkey.
