Does anyone out there know anything about the Stretta Procedure?  Also, does anyone get stopped up ears from Acid Reflux.  I get this all the time.  I sleep pretty good and even sleep a lot of nights on my regular pillow but in the mornings I get this stinging in my throat when I  get up and start moving around.  Sometimes at my desk at work just leaning over to work I get this same thing.  It is like it is going to choke the life out of me.  Tums helps.  Please give me some feedback on this!!!  I am so miserable.

Dear Pat, I know how awful this can be. Did you have an exray? I am not sure about the Stratta procedure. Is that a procedure they do in the doctors office to relieve the symptoms of GERD? I get plugged up ears all the time and I know people think I cannot hear well, which I can't with my ears like that. I also get the burning in my throat. I was diagnosed with a mild hernia and GERD. If this is mild I hate to think what severe is. I am sorry you feel so awful. I would ask the doctor about the procedure. I didn't because they said my case was mild and gave me medication. I also get this throat tickle which is driving me nuts. Do you get that?  I too sleep fine at night. But I get a pain in my stomach from the GERD and  it is painful. Take care. Marianita

Marianita, Thanks for responding. I do not get the tickle but the sudden burning - or it is almost like tons of dust (know what I mean?). The Stretta is where they do down thru the esophogeous and do some kind of radio frequency something. It is suppose to tighten the LES muscle. What kind of medicine do you take if you don't mind me asking? I am going to start on 150 Zantac as the 75 is not doing it and I don't want to take 300 prescription at once if I don't have to. I also worry about taking so many TUMS

Dear Pat, I am taking Prilosec 20 mg capsules for the GERD. As for the Stratta procedure, it sounds absolutely ghastly to go through, lol, but if it worked  it  would be worth it. I am not sure about the Tums. It seems that they will not hurt you but you could ask the doctor about that. I know it is not fun having this problem and  I go for the spicy foods with jalapenos and all. I try to be careful and not overdo. My nurse practitioner says to avoid coffee but that is hard to do. Do you drink coffee? I am glad I had the exray done. Atleast I know what I am dealing with. Take care and keep me updated on your progress. Marianita :-)

Yup, PATB, Stretta uses "heat" to create scar tissue of the LES.  That tissue, when it builds up, thus tightens the LES muscle.  Some docs say avoid Stretta b/c it messes with esophageal nerves.  Other types of non-surgical procedures are Endocinch and NDO Plicator.  These create pleats in the LES to tighten it.  From my research, I get the impression that Endocinch has been around longest.  I am considering doing it as well, since I can't have the fundoplication.  That stinging concerns me.  I hate PPI's, but you may need to approach your MD to discuss if you're having that much acid.
