I have already had 2 endoscopies, a barium swallow and do the menotery test next week. I have Barrett's esophagus, hiatial hernia, and Gerd. Both GI Dr and radiologist who did barium swallow said I am a good candidate for the Nissan reflux surgery. Do I have to do the 24 Hour Ph test on top of all that I have already done? just hoping I can get the surgery soon so I can get all this behind me and be able to keep food down and swallow better. Anyone know what are they looking for on the menotery test to determine if I am a candidate for the surgery or not?

Also on a side note, how long after recovery do you feel like you can travel comfortably? I have a road trip and overseas travel planned. Is one month enough time to physically recover enough to go slow on this trips but still be able to travel? I understand from this forum that my outsides will heal faster than my insides so I expect to be eating differently when traveling but 1 month out I should be good to be up and about with gentle exercise (walking and sightseeing). Thoughts?

I'm one month out (May 8th surgery) and I feel really good. I have a thread called "New to Forum" that has some details in it. I had the full 360 wrap. I have Barretts, and also had hiatal hernia. I am eating whatever I want, just small amounts. I feel that I could travel anywhere, if I needed to. I suffered from acid reflux all my life (I'm 59 now). I can't begin to tell you how wonderful it is to not have acid reflux anymore. I'm still getting used to not having it. The Barretts should heal up eventually. Just make sure you have a highly qualified surgeon, who has performed this procedure many times. I had Laproscopic surgery, and never had too much pain. Hope everything works out for you.

I would do the 24-hour monitoring. The manometry measures swallowing function. It determines whether you are a candidate, and what type of wrap would work for you. Everyone's recovery is different, but I wasn't ready to travel internationally at 1 month.
