I found this forum by chance because I'm really determined to get my GERD under control. I've had it for at least two years (probably more, but it wasn't serious). I've been on and off PPIs (Protonix and Prilosec) during this time and initially felt okay taking them, but I also don't feel as well as I could, so I've decided to try going off of them and changing my diet. It's quite fascinating what I'm reading about
low carbs. I'm giving it a try and will report back on what I find. It's really hard to get rid of potatoes and popcorn though!
So far so good. I'm also taking papaya tablets after each meal. I can honestly say I haven't felt this good in a long time. Actually, I feel nothing! (like my stomach isn't even there). I always tell people that you shouldn't feel your stomach being there at all. It should be able to do its job without letting you know every second
