Four Year Update:
▪️The first three years went relatively smooth in terms of swallowing and no aching or reflux sensations. I had two or three occasions where food would feel like it would slow down around the wrap which would worry me (still does) I was unwell twice that caused me to heave quite a lot and I have been sick a few times (just water)
▪️I'm currently had the end of the fourth year and beginning the fifth. My swallowing continued to be fine although at the beginning of 2020 food slowed down at the site and it lasted two weeks and the end of 2020 around October my food started slowing down again which is annoying but I keep getting told to chew, chew and chew even at four years by force of habbit I don't but my swallowing went back to normal at Christmas and throughout January 2021 and then began to slow down again and it's up and down really since October but I had Covid-19 in January which gave me sickness and I was sick (just water) again.
Overall looking at the bigger picture. It's been positive with ups and downs scattered here and there across the four years. I understand it's a long term process in recovery but feeling food slow down at times, stop then continue does worry me but I do feel well and to not feel feel reflux or heartburn, acid over four years and eating normally over 80% of the time.

John:
When was the last time you followed up with your surgeon to check the integrity of the wrap? It's still a good idea to have a follow-up endoscopy post surgery, even if it's been 4 years. There are still certain foods that tend to "stick" for me and I'm 6 years out. This makes sense to me because the fundoplication wrap essentially tightens up the lower part of the esophagus to prevent the acid reflux from creeping up and essentially creates the potential for feeling like your food is slowing near the wrap. Oh, and I won't tell you to remember to chew your food thoroughly!

I've had one endoscopy post surgery and and the integrity of my wrap was strong as of May 24th 2019. I should have had one last year but it was postponed due to Covid-19. I do feel quite fit and healthy, I have put on weight but I intend to lose that with diet and moderate exercise. I do tend to overate on the wrong things at times and I was wondering wether the wrap could be irritated at certain points.
How are you feeling and coming along with your recovery and eating?

I'm doing really well, I just had an endoscopy last month and was told that the wrap looked really good. It is possible to irritate the wrap, but it usually feels better quickly. My issues are usually with breads/rolls and steak.

I'm over the moon that you're doing so well, It's really nice to hear. Mom said this to me about
bread and certain stodgy foods. She said either eat slower because I do eat to fast or take a step back to a more leniant diet for a while. John.

The slowing down of food though worries me because I didn't have those sensations for hardly anything in the previous three years apart from one or two occassions but the longest ive had those sensations this time on and off since October.

As long as when you had your manometry test, your swallowing function wasn't compromised - I wouldn't worry about
it, since it always returns to normal. There has to be a similar connection between the instances, a particular food, a stressful situation, etc. If the swallowing issues still continue, contact your surgeon.

My swallowing function was fine, wrap was intact and firm. The surgeon said it's doing its job. Has you know two or three times since the operation I've felt food slow down but its been quite frequent since October on and off which its so annoying because to go three and half years with minimal set backs to then start feeling these issues like food sliding, slowing down, sticking a little bit it brings my anxiousness on and sometimes even when I chew and chew.

I'm sorry I don't have any more suggestions, other than to try and figure out if there are any particular foods that cause the issues and be more aware of them.

Thank you for your advice and help
I greatly appreciate it. It just feels all foods are slowing down at the moment and sticking. I'm not sure why and its worrying me greatly.

I know it's frustrating, and then the anxiety only adds to the problem.
