Hi all,
I just wanted to write a bit about my experience with GERD to give you all some hope.
Last summer, I was having stomach and chest pain all day, every day, no matter what I ate. I was treated for H.pylori and didn't notice any difference. Gave up coffee, alcohol, and carbonated beverages. Also gave up chocolate and mint, at the doctor's recommendation. I tried Nexium for a while, but it didn't do much more than possibly take the edge off. Different diets (such as low carb, non-dairy, no wheat - everything I could try) didn't help either. I kept a food diary for several months.
I had resigned myself to living with it when it gradually started getting better, as mysteriously as it had begun. The only two reasons that I could think were
1. The H.pylori treatment had done the trick, it just took a long time (more than 6 months) for my stomach and GI tract to heal.
-or
2. I noticed I felt gradually better after stopping taking birth control pills (It's been 6 months now). I'm 30 years old and had been on the pill for about 6 years.
At any rate, I can drink coffee and alcohol in moderation now, and eat anything as long as I don't overeat. I don't know why I feel so much better now, but I wanted to give you all hope because I know how miserable GERD can make you feel.
Best of luck to all,
Allie
