I'm having the worst trouble swallowing. I have gerd and post nasal drip from allergies and I sometimes can't even swallow saliva. Can gerd cause this? The difficult swallowing lasts just under 5 seconds but freaks me out. i'm so afraid to eat! It also happens in my sleep. I sometimes also have these things stuck in my throat (behind my thyroid) that i feel might be causing this. I have had tests and it is confirmed i have reflux. it also sometimes feels like glue is in my throat.

I have vomited in my own mouth. GERD can be very painful. My throat is quite sore. Could you possibly see a ENT (ear nose throat) specialist. You might get lucky and find some help.

HUGS Mooney this is a grossed out problem. Painful and disgusting. Just keep doing whatever you can.

i get the same thing i have trouble swallowing and my neck feels tense and my toung also feels weird.it gets worse when i strart to burp up almost forced burps and i feel like somthing is tuck in my throat or a chunk of somthin moves into my esophagis or throat and i start clearing my throat and the feeling makes it even harder to swallow?im not sure if its anxiety or acid reflux? i dont get any burning or pain when this happens its just wierd ...i have anxiet and acid reflux but its so hard to control when it starts......if you wanna talk more about this i also post in the anxiety forums alot its beeen ongoing for 4 months now and i have hard time eating foods..i mostly do not eat solids ...im still going through more tests to find out what it is so im in ur boat :( i hope u feel better soon

That is my symptom too it takes like 5 seconds to go down and it slides down like slug crawling down. Tucci asked me in another post how to get rid of it. With me its 8 to 12 weeks of PPI therapy mine being Perscription Prilosec which has been a wonder drug. Alot of time though too it can be a stricture which can cause the esophagus to narrow and they have to go in and stretch it so obviously the PPI's can't get rid of that. I have not had that done but from what I have read people who have need to be kept on PPI's to keep the acid under control because that is what caused the strictue in the first place. It too can also he a Hiatal Hernia causing the swallowing issues.

Hope this helps. I am no doctor but believe me I spend hours researching the internet for every ailment I get because I am a hyprochrondiac (spelling) so every pain I get is a result of the Big "C".

 There are two types of GERD: regular GERD and LPR.. Your ENT should have told you the difference because the symptoms are totally different. You have all the typical symptoms of LPR (Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Disease). I suggest, for your piece of mind,  that you research it on the internet and you will learn more about it and the difference in it and GERD. You will also find that the post nasal drip, if it goes down the back of your throat, is a very common symptom of LPR and isn't caused by allergies at all.

 The main reason I went in to see him was because my throat was closing off in the night.
