 Can anyone help me with this cough that keeps me awake most of the night[ cough during the day too]I reflux all day and night, I have to take paper towels to bed to spit up into,[ sorry] it sounds rather gross. I have tried all of the PPI's with no relief. I now take twenty mg prilosec 1 in the AM and 2 in the evening, my bed is propped up, again no help since I cough during the day.I am very careful with my diet, I eat three hours befor going to bed. I had a third endoscopy last week and have no barrets esophagus which is good news, but my stomach is in bad shope and shows signs of recent bleeding, also a very small hiatal hernia.Is there anyone that can shed more light on this for me.I am becomming depressed with no sleep. try what the natural cures books say, apple cider vinegar. Yes it taste bad but it has helped me some . I take prilosec at 6 pm cst and i take an inch of apple cider vinegar with 2 meals.

you could also try an antihistamine/decongestant like actifed, or clatirin d.

bleeding in stomach? did they have name for it? like watermelon stomach?

i was told when i take ppi's they need to be on an empty stomach an hour before eating otherwise they dont really work.

Re Cough and stmach, yes its called gastritis meaning inflamtion of the stomach. As for taking meds an hour before you eat it depends what you are taking, Prilosec has an enteric coating and is absorbed through the intestine, thats why it is important to keep up a steady dosing,An antihistamine wont help with the cough because it is not triggered by alergy,s,I have a hiatal hernia so my stomach pushes up into the esophagus, the acid is backing up into my throat and sinus,s, so the trick is to stop the reflux which no PPI seems to do. I reflux all day too, Thanks for your suggestions,Not sure about the apple cider vinegar, what is supposed to do. I know if the acid and cough is real bad in the daytime I take half a teaspoon baking soda in half a glass of water. it counteracts acid. Thanks once again. Rose Ft Lauderdale

Hello I donk know if this will help but there are inhalers for your condition if it is related to asthma, or bronchial related conditions.  Sometimes Prilosec will cause asthmatic conditions and dehydration that cuses coughing.  I suggest that you see your Medical Dr and tell them of yourside effects of your meds, if you are not asthmatic or you do not have emphasema or bronchial symptoms normally.  Drinking more liquids may help as well if your cough is related to dehydration. I hope you feel better soon, a humidifier may be in order as well you may want to talk to your Dr about a humidifier as well to hydrate you during the night.  Take care, and good day.
