Hi yesrod and welcome to HW.. I am glad you found us.. I know some of the problems gerd brings along can be scary but know that you are not alone. I personally do not wake up like that I will wake up choking on the acid coming up.. So I can relate some.. I know my boyfriend at times will be awakened like that.. It usually has to do with what he has eaten that day.. Like Mexican or something really spicy or greasy (sp) will do it to him.. I would keep a diary of when it happens so maybe you can pin point a trigger if there is one.. There isnt one for me but there is for my boyfriend. I would ask my doctor if I needed meds for it if it is bothersome to you.. Remember though we are not doctors by any mean but we are always here to help anytime you need it.. I hope I helped a little... And again Welcome to HW.

Thank you for replying. I've been to the E.R once for it and to the regular doctor too they just told me to try some antacids they seemed to work fine for a few months but in the last few weeks all the same symtoms have returned I'm considering goin to the E.R again next time it happens

Hi everyone... I have GERD and a hiatus or (hiatal) hernia.... I don't know if any of you have every been diagnosed with this, but if the pain in the chest you are describing is similar to the pain that I get in my chest from the hiatus hernia. I even went to the ER because I thought I was having a heartattack... they gave me a GI cocktail and it went away... I hope you find relief soon...

Hi Yesrod,
Anxiety can give me feelings like you describe. GERD can cause terrible pain but if you are concerned, please get checked out by your doctor again. It will put your mind at rest.
Take care

:) A GI Cocktail was a concoction (sp?) of different heartburn/antacids... kinda like Mylanta... I said the same thing when they said that's how they were going to treat me. I thought.. "Oh lord, is it that bad?" Then when they came in with a cup of what looked like cream of split pea soup, I had to ask... "What is that?" It looked HORRIBLE, but really didn't taste too bad.. kinda minty! :)
