Hi Elcamino,

You mentioned that biopsies are normally taken during endoscopies.  In my case, the gastro didn't see anything but took biopsies anyway. 

What would he have taken a biopsy of if nothing unusual is observed?  As far as you know, would he just biopsy the "most common" areas?

I'm waiting to see the Gastro on the 26th for the biopsy results and I'm a basket case.  Not sure how I'll be able to make it till then.

Yes, biopsies are routinely taken from what appear to be normal areas. I guess you can't always tell; a biopsy is the only way. I know with my first upper endoscopy I had biopsies taken for h. pylori, barret's, and I think, generalized inflammation. Fortunately, I do not have Barret's. I always have inflammation (esophagitis and gastritis), and I had h. pylori. Been through triple therapy twice to eradicate the h.pylori. Didn't appear to be the cause of my problems, though. There are probably other things that they would routinely biopsy for as well--I just don't know what they are. I know that I freaked when my GI doctor told me he sent off some biopsies for analysis. I had the same reaction you did, and he told me it was just routine--good practice. While you're in there, you might as well get some labs out of it because it is a rather invasive test.

Hi MeryG

I read your previous post about the doc wanting to see you on the 26th of the month for your biopsy results. I know you are scared as I am scared I have my first GI appt on Monday to hopefully schedule a scope.

In your case though if what the doctors found was serious I think they would have called you in for an appt alot sooner or I would think the doctor would have personally called you on the phone.

Just thought that might help ease your fears at least a little.

Thank you both. I am feeling a lot calmer after reading your posts. I've said it before and I'll say it again: "Thank Heaven for this forum". I don't know what people did before the Internet.

I know MerylG Thank God for this place....

I will be needing your guys support once they schedule mine because I suffer from severe and I mean severe health anxiety disorder. Someone else on another forum told me that I should maybe consider counseling for it...It kind of hurt my feelings but I know she is right....My anxieties only got worse after my son was killed.
