Hiya, I haven't been diagnosed with GERD but I do get heartburn a lot and last night I was woken up with the most painful heartburn I've ever had, it was awful and today I have felt like something big is stuck in my throat low down in my chest area, it's really painful and when i swallow it feels like whatever is stuck is trying to come back up for a few seconds then it eases off. I came online to look it up just out of interest because I don't know much about heartburn and I wanted to make sure you can't suffer damage to your throat from it - now I'm scared after reading everything because it seems maybe you can! Does this sound like something I should go see about or will it go away if I wait a day or two?

HI Kellss,

Heartburn is a progressive condition and will get worse if it is not treated and can do alot of damage to your esophagus. You should probably see a doctor to have it checked out. There are also alot of natural remedies for heartburn that work, plus changing your diet and some lifestyle changes like not eating before bedtime, elevating your torso at night so that gravity keeps any acid down, sleeping on your left side keeps your stomach lower than your esophagus. Keep checking out the websites but I definitely would find out if that's what you have.

Mine gerd started out with feeling like even liquid was stuck in my throat.. I would go see a doc as soon as you can get in.. Diet can help some but I have crohns also and what i need to eat for gerd i can not eat for my crohns.

Thanks for your replies :-)   I thought it would actually have gone by now but it seems to be getting worse, I was in tears with the pain last night confused Its as painful to drink anything as it is to eat sad   It's kinda wearing me out now I think I might go see about it if it doesn't ease up in the next couple of days.

I like to watch the healing health channel they show this pruduct gastro-ph it's for heartburns,acid reflux,indigestion.does anyone know of this product.

You can try anything you want, but give DGL licorice a try too. Read all the postings about it. Helped me get over GERD in one month. I refused to take drugs longer than 1 month and looked for a more natural cure. I found it and it seems to work for other people too. You just have to give it some time, not just a few days.

I'm just curious.  I have G.E.R.D, and a Hiatal Hernia which I am scheduling a Lap. Nissan Fundoplication for shortly.  My question to all you fellow sufferers is, do you experience back pain?  I have terrible back pain, about half way down the back on both sides of the spine itself.  It is clearly not the spine, but it feels muscular.  Does anyone else have this, and if so, does anyone have any relief!!??  I currently take Aciphex twice a day, and wash it down with Pepto Bismol (sp?).  My back is killing me and I wonder if this is somehow related to the whole G.I. thing.  Thanks for your help!!

My back doesn't hurt me. So I think that maybe it's not related. But I can be totally wrong.
