Since I am new to all of this, I have several questions I need answered.  I thought all of you might be able to help.

Nexium worked for me but I cannot tolerate its side effects.  Prilosec OTC does a pretty good job but I still get some burning in my throat, especially when I take the pill in the morning.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Can I take an antacid when I take the Prilosec to stop the burn?

Has anyone tried 30 mgs of Prevacid and what type of luck did you have with it?  I'm thinking if I go down to 30, I might be able to tolerate it and still get good results.

I went to two different health food stores yesterday and was not able to find DGL licorice.  Is there a trusted online source from which I can order it?

What were the side effects you had from nexium? I think you can take antacid when taking prilosec otc.. but i would check with a dr frist just to make sure..
My hubby was on precacid 30mg and his doc told him he could also take pepcid with it if he needed (just not on a daily basis)... He did well on it as long as he watched his diet and tried to keep stress down.. He is now on nexium though becuase of some antibiotics messing his tummy up and causeing gastritis... He is much better though..
Anyway back to you... I have seen it on ebay.. they have lots of it on amazon.. i think they have on the gnc website if you dont like or trust the previous 2..

My side effects were severe abdominal pain, relentess diarrhea and extreme nausea. Seriously, I couldn't get out of bed except to use the bathroom and was afraid I was going to dehydrate. I don't EVER want to feel like that again.

I see your profile says you have Crohn's disease. I have a niece-in-law who has a pretty severe case. about two years ago, she had a colostomy and now wears a bag and last year had even some of her small intestine removed. She was Crohn's free for about a year but recently started having problems again so went in for a scan last Monday. They found 7 ulcerations but luckily they are not bad enough for further surgery but likely can be managed by the meds. She just turned 23 and has had Crohn's since she was about 13.

I have been taking Prevacid 30 mg twice a day and I still have alot of breakthrough acid so my doc told me to take Zantac or Mylanta along with it. But I'm so sick of the constipation that Prevacid causes me that I'm just going to try Zantac and some natural remedies. I feel so much better not taking the Prevacid.

Sure hope you can find what works for you...it's constant trial and error with GERD...no two days are alike for me.

Thanks for your responses. I am learning that this is all so individualized that one really needs to experiment. I can't say my doc has been that helpful. She figures that a pill ought to do the trick and if not, then we have to try this test and that test and . . . That's why the conversation on this board is so valuable. I learn so much more from all of you.

I am sorry to hear about your niece-in-law.. It is a hard disease to live with... Keep a food journal.. That way you do not have to remember..

I was on Protonix for about two months but it gives you a headache. Now I am only taking Zantac and couple Tums a day and feeling much better. I have yet to try DGL.

If you want a PPI that constipates, then Prevacid might do the trick...it certainly does me....and I don't need that. I have severe GERD and I have alot of breakthrough acid with Prevacid...no two days are alike for me. I'm trying just Zantac today to see what happens.

sillylilly, are you trying zantac together with the prevacid?  because i'm supposed to take prevacid two times a day and zantac at night.  i thought the prevacid was working for you these days.  am i wrong?
