Possible Reflux..what does hiatal hernia feel like?

I have noticed several of you have written about a hiatal hernia and acid reflux. What does it feel like? I am in pain but it is on right side. I have a lot of burping, stomach ache and several times a week tummy acid coming up into back of throat and if I tried could get it into my mouth. I thought maybe I tore up my esophogus. Need help with symptoms as I am freaking out about what else it could be. Also, dr gave me prevacid. Does it generally make you feel worse before better? It makes me nauseous. Thanks for all your help

harvest, did you get an endoscopy done to see if you did, indeed, "tear up your esophagus?" your esophagus might not be damaged, even if it seems it is. i have been diagnosed with rigorous reflux yet the endoscopy showed that my esophagus is norma.

many people have hiatal hernias without feeling any pain. some never even get reflux from it but many people who have hiatal hernias do develop reflux.

yes, prevacid can cause nausea. but it works for some people anyway.
