Antibiotics for H. Pylori

Hi there, anyone out there take antibiotics for H. Pylori?  If so, what were the results? 

Does it cure the lump in the throat?  Or does it make the GERD worse??

I have just been given antibiotics because I was told that I have bacterial overgrowth (I think they meant h.pylori).

I have to call the doctor and ask what they meant.  I have to take it for 3 months!!

I think it's called xifaxan.

You can research it - it looks good from the standpoint that it's not systemic - doesn't get into your bloodstream/stays mainly in your digestive tract. However, one side effect can be constipation - didn't you have a problem with that?

all i know is that i hope that the antibiotic will kill all my reflux symptoms.  I am so tired of all this mess.

I have the PH-probe inside of me now and it hurts so much to eat while it's there!!

Lonibel, I hope that the xifaxan will NOT cause me constipation.  You are right, I had a huge constipation problem. Thanks for listening. :)) I think that many people who take xifaxan have diarreah, maybe that's why it can cause constipation. i"m not sure...

Friendlygal, How are you doing on the antibiotics? Is your GERD improving? Did they give you any time frame for results?

Hi, Lonibel.  I thought that the antibiotics were for h. pylori because a nurse whom I went to separately from that visit (at another doctor), told me that the breath test was for h.pylori.  But the bacterial overgrowth that I have is not h.pylori.

I still have more antibiotics to go so I'm not sure if they are working or not.  THanks for caring!  How have you been doing?

Hi Friendlygal,

Concerning your bacterial overgrowth, it seems that they would have told you if your bacteria were H-pylori.  Taking an antibiotic for three months is unheard of for H-pylori...also, that bacteria is mainly in the stomach.

I am wondering if your bacteria could be from probiotics...probably not, but just wondering. I would certainly ask the doctors specifically what bacteria overgrowth they are talking about.  Never be afraid to ask or call your doctor if you have questions.  Three months on antibotics could kill off alot of good bacteria in your system...ask them if they want you to take probiotics at the same time.

I already know that it's not h.pylori.

It's a bacterial overgrowth.  It wouldn't be from probiotics.  They definitely mean bad bacteria.

Friendlygal, I can't say I am doing great at the moment. I did have a very good period about a month ago - felt like I could eat anything. That lasted about a week.
