Aciphex caused my headaches?

Hi all,

   I went through perimenopause for about 10 years.  What a drag.  Many of those years were spent having very bad migraines/headaches.  They caused alot of problems for me.  During this time I was on aciphex.  After I got off the aciphex, they went away, but I thought it was because I was off hormone replacement, and I was also started on a beta blocker.

   Recently, on several occasions, I thought I was having some reflux symptoms, so I took an aciphex.  The next morning, I would have a headache.  This happened 3 or 4 times, and I always developed a headace.  Made me wonder if all those years I suffered with horrible headaches was in part due to the aciphex........and I didn't even realize it.

    Anyone else get headache from aciphex or other PPIs?

Cathy:  I was on Aciphex for about two weeks and had to leave it because it gave me horrible headaches.  In fact, the headaches were so bad I would get them in the form of sharp stabbing pains.  The Aciphex was wonderful about clearing the acid problem but not when it came to the headaches so I discontinued it.  I have tried Nexium and Protonix and they did not give me a headache.  The Prevacid gave me diarreah though.  I haven't had that good luck on Nexium (takes too long to kick in).  The Protonix worked great but don't know it stopped working for me after 7 months.  I am trying Prilosec today but as of right now I am in lots of chest pain.  I don't know if this one is going to do me any good.

I'm so upset with myself that I tolerated horrible headaches for 5 years, and I never once considered the aciphex! I guess I've learned my lesson about suspecting any and all drugs I might be on.
That's very interesting about those stabbing pains you mentioned. I only took the aciphex a couple times last week, but these "ice pick" headaches started up then and are still continuing.
Don't you just hate it when you find a drug that treats one of your problems really well, but then causes you another problem that you just can't live with?? Bummer! Good luck with the Prilosec.
