Zegerid

Hi all,

I had an upper EGD about 2 months ago that showed erosive gastritis and erosive esophagitis. The problem is I've been taking 40 mg aciphex/day and 300 mg zantac every night for several years now. GI doctor ordered a HIDA scan to make sure it wasn't bile reflux that was causing the damage--my results were normal, so we think it is breakthrough acid. He's switching me to zegerid, but I had never heard of this PPI before. Does anyone know anything about it? I was told by a friend (who happens to be a pharmaceutical rep) that aciphex tends to be one of the weaker PPIs. Has anyone else ever heard this?

In any case, I hope the zegerid provides the relief I need. I do still have regular symptoms (indigestion, nausea, bloating, at times extreme stomach pain).

see if they will let you try Hyoscyamine, just got put on this

Friday I so far along w/aciphex I have not had one eposide of severe stomach pain. I 've been suffering for several years now, So I'm hoping this is my magic pill!

I looked up the hyoscyamine, and it sounds like an anti-spasmodic.  I'm taking bentyl, which I think does the same thing.  It does help a lot.  Still not taking care of the breakthrough acid, though.
