DGL Licorice Information?

Hello,

I suffer from chronic Gerd and have been reading information from members about DGL Licorice. I would like to try it as all of the PPI's i tried just did not work for me. Could someone please tell me where i may buy it in the Toronto area and how best to take it? Does it cause high blood pressure?

I take it all the time.
The most affordable would be online on amazon.
A whole foods, herb store, natural food store should sell it.

The one called DGL does not cause high blood pressure. They take out the component that causes it. You take it before a meal 20mins.

There are two flavors, chocolate and original. If this will be your first time, I recommend you go for the chocolate one. I take the original flavor, it is bad but after a while you get use to it.

If PPIs are not helping, you may have low acidity problem. Low acid symptoms are similar to the GERD symptoms, but the treatments are reversed. People with low acid do not react to PPIs, in fact, their symptoms can go worse after taking PPIs. You can try Apple Cider Vinegar or HCL in your diet. ACV and HCL provide necessary acid for digestion, and prevent GERD like symptoms.

Does DGL cause heartburn? I tried DGL yesterday for the first time. ( 1 tablet 20 min before meals)

I have developed sore throat.

I have done a lot of research and never heard that.

I have also noticed an increase in throat issues after eating a DGL lozenge.

On another note. When people say PPIs "don't work for me" I think they need to be more specific, and more specificity is needed to recommend an alternate treatment. If a person still has heartburn after taking a PPI, they might need to take it for longer and give the esophagus time to heal. If a person has continued regurgitation (stomach fluids coming up, reaching mouth), then all PPIs are doing is making the reflux less acidic but the person will still have problems.

Recommending Betaine HCL for people who have a regurgitation problem will not help, it will make things worse if anything. My 2 cents.

When I informed my GI that I was planning to try DGL. He warned me it may increase my gerd symptoms.

I think it's unusual for people to feel worse after taking DGL, though we are all different and anything is possible. But usually people say it helps or does nothing. I love it for my morning nausea - I just chew 2 tablets when I wake up.

I think your dr was referring the root, the plant or original form of it.
Many times American dr are not familiar with alternative medicine.

My Gastro had been practicing for 35 years and he didn't know about alternative herbs
