Good Morning everyone,

                                            My name is Janice and im new to this board.. well I have had gerd now for about 2 years ... I dont get heart burn but I do get pain in my chest, and food always coming back up ...but the other day I had this new symptom and im not sure its related to gerd just wondering if anyone else has this  .... I sometimes get pain under my left breast in the middle of my chest ... but the other day I got this Sharp pain under my right breast more to the side of my body I couldnt take a breath without it hurting I was up all night and couldnt lay on my left side with out it hurting but by the next day it was gone....

so yeah thats my question :) thanks for listening

 

oh I take Prilosec otc  every morning but thats it nothing else ..

Hello Janice! Welcome to healingwell. I am happy you found us, but sorry you are suffering! The pain you are describing could be a number of things. I sometimes hate the thought of saying chest pain is GERD, because along with GERD, it could always be heart related, or a good number of other things. When is the last time you had a physical by your doctor? Do you have any heart problems in your family, or yourself? I just don't want to be too laid back when it comes to someones heart. It could be the GERD causing it, but I am not sure I have ever heard of it being as severe as you described. Did you do anything to pull a muscle in your chest? Costochondritis is another thought. Did it hurt when you pressed on the area? That would be something to think about too. Another thought is your gallbladder...Classic gallbladder attacks consist of right upper quadrant abdominal pain which is pain just under the rib cage on the right side. The pain often radiates around the abdomen to the back and is associated with nausea and sometimes vomiting. The pain is severe and lasts from 30 minutes to several hours. Often this is followed by less intense soreness in the area that lasts for a day or so. So, I guess the bottom line here is, yes, your pain COULD be from GERD, among many other things...things I didn't even list here. The best advice I can give you is this...IF IN DOUBT, CHECK IT OUT! Hi Tammy thanks for your reply I was in the er for chest pains on the left side under my breast 2 years ago and they did all kinds of tests and said it was gerd that my heart was fine and put me on prilosec  and for about a year and a half I was fine until  that pain in my chest came back but went away after a few days ... that was on my left side under my breast like the last time... but the other day was different it was the right side and the pain was different I have read the things that you have said it could be and I guess your right if in dout check it out ... but i have this dr. (example) if your head was hanging off your shoulders  she would say I was fine take tylenol... the second time I had the pain under my right breast i went to her and she said Im to young to have these problems .... and if it happens again come back to her and she'll go from there I KNOW i need a new Dr. .... eyes

But what im wondering is if this pain left and its not bothering me should I wait to go to the Dr. or should I just go .... Cause If I walk in her office with no symptoms shes gonna say im fine!

But thanks so much for your reply I just wanted to know if anyone that has gerd had this symptom also ...

Tammy is right. The symptoms you are describing could be GERD, could be heart, could be gallbladder, or any number of different illnesses. The best thing is to get a thorough check up. In my case I had the severe pain in the right side and in the chest area. I went to the ER and they brought in a cardiologist and an endo (stomach doctor). I had a series of tests including an ultrasound of the stomach, kidneys, ovaries, and liver, and a stress test with dye, an echocardiogram, a ekg, and an assortment of tests including an endoscope before they were finally able to rule out heart. In my case what they found was a hiatal hernia in the upper left near the heart and chronic gastritis in the lower right (which was causing the pain). A couple rounds of antibiotics brought things back in line. My primary care doctor put all the pieces together and found that everytime I had this pain, I had gastritis and right before the gastritis I had a sinus infection. Before each sinus infection I had a bout of severe drainage most likely brought on from perenial seasonal allergies (I not only have hay fever but also allergies to ragweed so I get it year round). So, now I take allergy meds at the first sign of post nasal drip. I also eat Activa yogurt daily (helps me keep GERD in check) along with a prontix daily. When I do get a return of the symptoms my doctor told me to take a zantac 150 or 300 and if the symptoms don't get better then to come in. So far, it's working.

Sorry for the long post. I just want to emphasize the importance of getting your symptoms checked out.

Janice, I am sorry your doctor doesn't seem to be the "best" that she can be. Have you thought of changing to a new doctor? I know there are often situations in which you aren't in control of being able to pick new doctors, so that may not be an option for you. I ask beacause you seem to be a bit unsure of her, that's all. I do hope you find relief soon. Marburg, Thanks for sharing your story with us! I am 27yrs old and have been dealing with this for a while. It started off with chest pain and then that feeling of something being stuck in my throat. I'm tired and feel like my head is in a cload, that spacey feeling. I don't have this symptoms all the time they come and go. I had this feeling in my throat all day long some days. Eating never had anything to do with it. It would come even on an empty stomach. I have had Drs. tell me it is acid relux. I seen a GI Dr. and he did a EGD with a bravo placement to check my bodys PH level. Like I already knew I didn't have acid reflux. I didn't think I had all the symptoms. I didn't have the burning feeling in my chest and the acid taste in my mouth. My Dr. sent me in to have an MRI done. To make sure everything was ok in that area. I seen a Neurologist to get the results and found out that I have Chiari Malformation Type 1. Only an MRI can tell f you have this. Not an X-ray or Ct scan Basically Chiari Malformation is where your brain is to big for your skull or your skull is miss shaped and it pushes you brain back. It causes the brain tonsils in the back of your head to be pushed out of the bottom of your skull. Causing a hernia. They call it herniated tonsils. It restrict the spinal fluid to your brain. It can cause alot of problems.
