Very nervous, my nissen is on Monday

Hello  I would really  like to know  how your surgery  went. because  i am now  having the  gerd  problem and  i really don't like it,  it is a  constant  heart burn and  constant  gas.  The thing  about it  is  im really  tired of having  this.  Where  dfid it come from?

Go and buy a food grinder...I ground up all my food.

Beno, heating pad, yoguet, ice cream, pudding.

Do not try and eat MEAT for months you will be sorry.

Walk a lot around the house, hot shower with the water beating on your back. Drink warm water with food.

I had mine done 6 years ago. I will not say its fun the first few months, but in time it gets better and better. I think the worse is not burping, you will pass gas a lot and will for the rest of your life as the gas has to come out...

Wait you wil get sick of it...The gas builds up and up until you feel like you want to explode...Its no fun...

They don't do the Nissen to much here anymore...The rate for it is 10 years...

Good Luck Michelle:  You made the right decision!!! Living with this gerd hell is no way to live.  Especially, since we have opted to have the surgery we've tried everything to cure the gerd and nothing worked as surgery is the last resort.  It will be a tough road but well worth it.  Let us know your experiences and remember we don't all heal the same.  The first 2-3 weeks will be rough because of the lack of nourishment but just take it easy and don't rush into trying to eat solids.  Thank God, I never had a choking incident but I was very careful and did follow the liquid diet and in 2 1/2 weeks transitioned into a soft diet i.e. yogurt, pudding, cream of wheat, runny egg and so on.  Please feel free to ask any questions and also make sure you get a prescription for nausea.  I took it religiously for close to 4 weeks and it helped.  Again good luck on your surgery and outcome, Barbara....

You've seen how many of us have said the post-op part is not much fun, but we are all glad we had it done AND we are all still alive to talk about it.  I had my lap Nissen along with a hiatal hernia repair in March of 2005 and I'm still glad I did it.  I can burp and I can throw up, not that those are such wonderful qualities in a lady.  It didn't really take that long before I was able to do little burps.  I can't remember how long it was after my surgery, maybe a year, that I got a stomach bug, and I was able to throw up.
