Would having psoriasis be considered one of those chronic medical conditions that increases the likelihood of flu complications? My friends with psoriasis have gotten different answers from their docs so I am curious what everyone else thinks.

   I would like to have anyones opinion on this. I have been sick since 12-14-09. It started out as just a head cold. Went to my family doctor because i have psoriasis and PA and i take meds like methotrexate and celabrex. So far i am not getting any better. A couple of years ago i got pneumonia and was hospitalized because of it. First time i ever got it! I also have asthma as well. Since seeing the doc she put me on generic zithromax which you take for 3 days and it stays in your system up to 10 days. Plus she has me on inhaler and breathing treatments 4 times daily plus she gave me some good cough syrup. I went to a check-up on 1-06-2010 and she told me that i am still not over this stuff yet and she put me on Predisone to open my airways. I have read the effects of taking this med. And it can lower your immune system. Well i already take methotrexate. So can anyone please explain to me how i am supposed to get better if i am take all these meds that lower my ability to fight off infections. I don't feel like i am getting any better. If anything i feel worse. Please help!!! Thanks

You make a good point....I am on several meds that suppress the immune system and just found out I have Lyme disease. They will probably make me reduce the dosage of the immunosuppressants or even get off them entirely because you CAN'T really fight Lyme disease if your immune system is compromised.

Pneumonia would probably be difficult to overcome too!

However, I should tell you about my recent experience: I caught a cold on almost exactly the same day that you did. Naturally it went to my chest....one of the things they did was increase the prednisone temporarily to help my asthma (I was wheezing quite badly). Also they gave me an antibiotic (Zithromax) since I had bronchitis; I took it for 5 days. I did not feel completely well when I stopped the antibiotic. I was still hoarse, still coughing, so I decided that the antibiotics hadn't eradicated the bronchitis. But it must have done something because within a few more days (less than a week) I could tell I was getting better. The bronchitis is completely gone now.

This story is meant to encourage you, but if you are worried about your illness you should definitely talk to your doctor about it!

  It has been along time that i have posted anything due to my health. I was really sick since about 12-17-09. I ended up with bronchitis. On top of my PA, asthma, and arthritis. My doc put me in the hospital for 4 1/2 days and told me to stop smoking. That because i smoke and have those things wrong with me that i am only making myself sick. Stopped smoking for about 5 days but i felt like chewing my arm off. She said that if i started smoking again i will end up back in the hospital. It is so hard to quit. I was on nicotine patches in the hospital but i just can't afford to buy them in the store.

   I also found out that i have a small cyst (sp) on my second toe. I thought it was from arthritis. Since i have been sick i now have acquired a rash as well. Not sure from what though. Most of my meds that i take can cause rashes. I have a rash from my waist up. Maybe caused by stress who knows.

A patient with P's have an increased T-Cell count which affects the immune system.  Our immune system is very sensitive and very active.  In my opinion having P's have helped me dodge alot of illnesses.  Just food for thought.

My dermatologist also told me never ever to take prednione. It helps with the flare ups and inflammation, but end result, is it causes P's to come back alot worse.
