Hello! I am newly diagnosed with PSA and am getting ready to start Enbrel. I am very nervous as I tried methotrexate and had a serious allergic reaction. I am 37 years old and I had to quit my job in February after 20 years because I couldn't function. Just looking for some advice or support. None of my friends understand why I can't jump up and go do things.. I feel lonely.. Since February my quality of life consists of home, hospital, and doctors appts. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Hurtingirl. I'm sorry for what you're going through. I have PSA too and started Enbrel exactly one year ago after having tried 4 other biologics. I hope the Enbrel works for you. It has helped to mostly clear my skin and is only doing so-so for the arthritis. It's hard when your body can't keep up with all that you'd like to do. I totally understand what that is like. I had to leave my job about 10 years ago, so I get it. Hopefully this rough patch is short-lived and the Enbrel will be able to help you. Maybe you'll start to feel better enough to do things. Do you have family near by? Do you have any friends who are sympathetic at all? Anybody willing to come over for a movie night?

I am also sorry for your pain, but it is important to get out of the house.  If you could have someone take you to a movie; if you can drive, venture out for lunch at the park.  At the very least, open a window, get fresh air!  I have had psoriasis for over 40 years and arthritis for about the last 30, so I know just how you both feel.  I am also at the point that I might have to quite work, I have had to cute back to about 25-30 hours per week.  I have been on Enbrel and Humira both.  I had minor success with both, unforturnately.  Keep up the faith.

If you both don't mind, may I ask how you were able to leave your job.  Did you apply for SS disability?  Do you have financial support?

The humira worked good for me on my skin, not so much on my arthritis and it made me extremely tired. So tired that I was sleeping 18-20 hours a day, so I had to stop.

No weight gain. My skin has flared up a bit since I stopped taking the Humira, but not as bad as I expected.
