severe psoriasas outbreak (from Strep throat?)

I have had psoriasis and PSA arthritis my entire life. I started Enbrel and then switched years ago to Humira. I have been using it for years and its been terrific. However, two weeks ago, I had strep throat, started amoxycillian for it, and got better after a few days. I took the amoxycillian for 8 days, was feeling over the strep, and needed the Humira shot, so I did the shot. The next day I woke up with what we beleived were hives...as the day progressed they got worse, and i went o the doctor. He said I had an allergic reaction to the amoxycillian and stop taking it, and use some steroids to clear up the hives...long story short, i was back two more times, as they continued to get worse, more and more steroids, to no avail and finally to my pcp, and then to a dermatiologist. The dermotologist said he beleives it is a servere psoriasas outbreak caused by the strep. He has to do a biopsy and bllod work and cant do anything till the results come back. Now, one week later, my body is covered about 80% including my head and itches so bad i cant stand it. Benadryll doesnt touch it, two Zyrtecs help but not enough, and a prescription isnt helping either.

I called again today and of course, had to leave a msg, but pleading that there has  to be something we can do!

Has anyone ever heard of this? I can not find anything. It is so unsightly and now covers the back of my hands...which does not help in a professional world.

Remember also that Strep can present asymptomatically as well. Next time get a culture done to make sure that you are strep negative before taking on medication.

Strep throat has long been a trigger for psoriasis and can activiate the gene at any stage of life.

Dottie9999. I would do whatever you can to get your daughter assistance for her medical treatment; maybe, Medicaid. She will need long term care and most people with Psoriasis need help to navigate the medicines and the emotional destress that comes with this illness. I emplore you to take her for medial care as soon as you can. IN the meantime, fine good over the counter medications to treat her symptoms, like itching, pain, etc. Seek advise from the National Psoriasis Foundation. They may be able to help you get medical assistance. Good Luck.
