I can't believe that your doctor has been giving you cortisone injections for years they are obviously not effective if you are still in that much pain !!!
I had 2 injections they didn't work and was advised that surgery was the next option and then my surgeon told me that because it was bone on bone that is why the injections did not work !! I'm so pleased to hear that you are being sent to a specialist and I won't be surprised if we hear that you will be having joint replacement surgery in the near future !! I have been watching this site for about a month, now. People have been wonderful. Answering questions, telling us all how they are doing month to month. It is so good to know what to expect....what can be normal....some people have numbing, others don't. It can be normal. I am having my surgery this Tuesday, the 26th. I have had awesome support, and prayers. Sounds like you will be a candidate for the surgery.....let us know what the Dr. says. And, I will keep you informed as to what's going on with me.

Hi everyone. I am having the surgery on Dec 1. What do you all suggest about what clothes to wear? I will be out of work 2wks. I am 37 so staying out of work for a while is not an option. Please help.

I am also having surgery in Dec-the 8th.MICWES68, we should stay in touch to compare!
I have a different type of hand surgery in Sept, and can recommend that you wear loose sweat pants home-too hard to button and pull up any fashionable pants. Also, tops with BIG sleeves-hard to find in my closet, so I had to tear a few long sleeve arms up. I am in Chgo, and having surgery at Mayo Clinic, so Dec. could pose challenges for warmth!

The joint at the base of the thumb which allows for the swivel and pivoting motions of the thumb is referred to as the basal joint or thumb CMC (carpometacarpal) joint. Because of its design, it tends to wear out and develop arthritis early in life. Basal joint arthritis is also common in people who have osteoarthritis. nono smhair
