Any suggestions on help with bad joint pain from my osteoarthritis???

My doctors have had me on every RA/Osteoarthritis medications trying to find something to help alleviate my pain from my joints, especially my hips and knees the most. I am hoping someone has a suggestion of a medication that I haven't been on yet to try. A little background my Osteoarthritis is caused by my Crohns disease. As well even with having been on Humira, Remicade, and now Cimzia for my Crohns which also help with arthritis pain, they have done nothing to help with my pain. I've been on just about every medication with no luck. Except for one medication that ever helped my arthritis and made a 100% difference for me which was Vioxx but of course as we all know that medication got pulled ( I curse every person who sued Vioxx's creator as all medications can cause death and a crapload of other issues.) Vioxx was the perfect medication! Anyway I just hope there might be someone out there with a name of something that's helped them that we haven't tried yet. I thank you for all responses ahead of time!!!

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.  My hubby is a chronie who also has Crohn's arthritis.  I am hoping you have a rheumatologist on your medical team.  My husband did not for years and has only had one for about 9 months but this Dr. has helped not only to manage his arthritis but also more agressively treat his Crohn's.

Of course Crohn's is such an individual disease and each person's is different from the next that there is not a one size fits all treatment plan.  Sounds like you have been on many of the meds.

My hubby is on weekly Methotrexate Injections which have not made the arthritis disappear but have prevented anymore flairs that landed him in the hospital like last March. 

I wish I had a better answer for you but please know you have my support.

I have ulcerative colitis with arthritis (see a pattern here?) My current regimen is Mobic daily, Tylenol arthritis twice a day as needed, then if I still have pain it take a Tramadol. The thing I find is that for me, analgesics seem to become less effective the more I use them, so I try to take the smallest amount I can get by with.

I also find that light weight workouts help to control my pain.

First of thank you to both Judy2 and stkitt! Judy2 last night after no one answered I began re-looking over med lists again and I found mobic. I will be speaking with my doctor tomorrow and have him try me on that. Thanks again.

Ok Mobic is a no go as I'm allergic to Advil and Lodine and Mobic is in that same family. shakehead

Any other pill suggestions??

Talked with my doctor today and it seems I am going to have to suffer because all the pill form medications I am allergic to and then the multiple injections out there I can't get because of being on the Cimzia. Oh well just wanted to say the latest if anyone even reads my post here.

I think the reason I'm not being put back on methotrexate is because I was on it before back when I was on Humira and there was no improvement of my crohns nor arthritis. No matter what medication I'm on nothing has helped my arthritis even when my crohns is under control. The only medication that ever did help with my arthritis was Vioxx but that's no longer on the market. I was on Remicade for years as it kept my crohns under control until it then started causing an severe adverse effect so I had to be switched over to Cimzia which because of this transition my crohns is wakening up a lot more then it has done for years. But I'm sure the cimzia once I get a few more doses in will take care of it but my problem is the arthritis I'm young and yet feel like an 80-90 year old and its limiting my mobility anymore to the point I don't go out much anymore other than whats absolutely necessary.

I will bring up the 6-MP have not heard of that. I was on predisone and imuran for 13 years because I was allergic to most of the meds used to help till these new biologics came out. Then my body stopped using imuran the right way and was moved to humira and methotrexate which was worthless and then on to remicade which was the best medication ever until we found out what it was doing to me. Was also on Entocort as well. I've just been very unlucky with finding meds because I'm allergic to most of them and then the ones I can use either they don't work or are pulled off the market or I get bad reactions from. But I will ask about 6-MP and see if I can get that. Thank you a lot for the suggestion!

Wow you have been through a lot too. I'm sorry you've had to go through so much. I wasn't able to do sports as I was all ready dealing with issues in middle school and high school and surprisingly even with osteoporosis I've never broken a bone just a fractured wrist. Never had any surgery for my arthritis but number one I never will have any for it no matter what as because of my RSD there are no surgeries unless its life threatening, my worst is my hips and knees wish I could get a hip replacement but I know what will never be a go. Your right most arthritis meds contain NSAIDS and as I'm allergic to Advil that interferes and then because I'm allergic to Lodine which is in the same family as most of the meds that's another conflict. Or the ones I can take didn't work even after adjusting doses. I agree steroids are more trouble then worth.

The remicade was a amazing medication and worked so much better than any medication previous but sadly after 3 years and (even getting IV benedryl and tylenol) I got a rare adverse reaction from the remicade that cause a not usual form of Psoriasis that was bleeding excessively and weeping which my gastro doctor after seeing immediately took me off remicade and went to an emergency appointment with a dermatologist because of it. Which she wasn't even sure what it was and they had to do a biopsy. Thankfully now with a cream and having been off remicade since may its clearing up and almost completely gone. I'm like you having tried just about every other med which I was allergic to most of them and Humira was just worthless. My last remaining was Cimzia so were trying that now. My other issue RSD has had me on every pain med ever imaginable. Was on neurontin years ago got the whole way up to 2700mg (3-300mg pills 3x daily in a day. Been on vicodin, percocet, morphine, oxycodone, oxycontin, methadone, dilaudid & IV dilaudid, fentynal & fentynal shots, lidocaine, bupivacaine, tramadol, spinal cord stumlator, nerve blocks and so on and so forth so trying to manage pain with pain pills won't work on my system because of my nervous system being complete screwed up.

I really feel for you with gastroparesis, sorry you have to deal with this as well. They tried NG & NJ tube feedings for me and reglan and nothing worked, I literally just had to learn what I could tolerate and do from then on. While I was in the hospital for it they had a nutritionist start with me but she recommended trying 6 small meals but I could not do that I just got even worse. So I found what suited me was to do one meal a day and even that makes me sick but I force it to keep going. I can't do the boost shakes as anything creamy and milky makes me even worse. I'm nauseated all the time and was even put on cancer patient meds to help with the nausea but no help found. So its just something to deal with. I'm glad to hear your getting relief from pain meds and the reglan. I wish you the best and hope things continue to get better for you.
