Some useful info?
I'm 5'4" and 185 lbs. So not huge, but need to loose the weight.
Also, I just turned 34 this past Tuesday.
As far as I know, there is no history of arthritis in my family.
Ok...about
5 years ago, I started having some annoying cramping in my right toe. Thinking I was being over cautious, I mentioned it at a routine office visit. They tested me for Gout and that came up negative. about
a year later, an x-ray came up with nothing. I knew I needed to see a podiatrist, but slacked on it. Now, being to a point I almost can't bare, I talk to my PC...the x-rays he had done show osteoarthritis. He prescribes me Mobic, but it never worked (I had such high hopes from what I read on line). I finally went in to see a podiatrist. He confirmed the arthritis and also told me that there are bone spurs on my toe joint...that's what's causing all the pain.
So, what to do now? HE says that it's bad enough (7 on a 1-10 scale) that pills and creams aren't going to work. Our first try out was a cortisone shot. I was in so much pain for 3 days that I could barely walk and I was in tears. Then, the shot calms down and my toe feels no better. To top it off, in these past two weeks since, more of my foot and my other foot have started giving me trouble.
I don't know if I'm bad enough to be thinking about
shaving the spurs down or should I wait till they get worse. If I do have them shaved down, does that help any? Is it worth it? How long till it needs to be done again?
And what can I take for pain. The doc doesn't seen to think anything is going to help with pain because the to "just doesn't react to meds the way other parts of your body does."
Also...I'm supposed to get shoes with, or buy inserts separate. I can't find anything geared toward toe bone spurs and arthritis in your feet. It's all about
your heels.
So, PLEASE...and suggestions for otc meds, script
meds, creams, acupuncture/pressure, is the surgery worth it?
I just don'e even really know where to begin. Sorry about
the rambling. Thanks in advance for any help!
